Daffodil Day at 40: Why Every Vhouse Order on 20 August Gives Back

On Thursday 20 August, every order placed with Vhouse will help us raise money for Cancer Council NSW.

We’re donating $10 to $25 from every Vhouse order, depending on the order value. Nothing extra is added to the customer's bill. You order your flowers as usual, and the donation comes from us.

We wanted to take part because this year is a significant one for Daffodil Day. The campaign began in Australia in 1986, which makes 2026 its 40th year.

Back then, around 46% of Australians diagnosed with cancer were alive five years later. Today, that figure is about 72%.

Forty years is a long time, but those numbers are a good reminder of what sustained cancer research can achieve.

Why Vhouse is taking part

As florists, we're usually involved in the good days: birthdays, anniversaries, new babies, celebrations and thank-yous.

But flowers are also sent on the difficult days.

We make get-well bouquets and regularly deliver flowers to hospitals, including Sutherland Hospital. We prepare flowers for people going through treatment, families trying to cheer someone up, and people who simply don't know what else to say.

Cancer isn't an abstract cause when you see those orders come through.

So when the opportunity came to support Daffodil Day, doing something through the work we already do made sense.

Vhouse is registered with Cancer Council NSW as a Daffodil Day fundraiser under Supporter ID 120974.

Rather than asking customers to make an additional donation at checkout, we've decided to donate from every order ourselves.

What happens on 20 August

If your flowers are ordered for Thursday 20 August, they count.

That includes pre-orders as well as orders placed on the day, whether you order online or visit us in store.

Depending on the value of the order, Vhouse will contribute between $10 and $25 to the fundraiser.

We'll transfer the money raised to Cancer Council NSW within seven days after the fundraiser.

There is no discount code to enter, no box to tick and no additional charge.

If you were already planning birthday flowers, a thank-you bouquet, flowers for someone recovering, or simply something for home, your order can be part of the fundraiser.

Why the daffodil?

For forty years in Australia, the yellow daffodil has been associated with Daffodil Day and cancer research.

You'll see plenty of them around 20 August, but you don't have to buy daffodils for your order to count.

The fundraiser applies to every qualifying Vhouse order for the day, whatever flowers you choose.

Ordering for Daffodil Day

Pre-orders for Thursday 20 August are open now.

You can order through Vhouse as normal for delivery or pickup. Our delivery areas cover the Sutherland Shire and surrounding Sydney suburbs, including Sutherland and Cronulla.

And that's really all there is to it.

One normal day at the florist, with every order doing a little more than it normally would.
