Qixi is observed on the seventh day of the seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar. The festival is connected to the story of Niulang, the Cowherd, and Zhinü, the Weaver Girl. The lovers are separated by the Milky Way and reunited once a year across a bridge formed by magpies.
